Oregano Oil for Ear Infection

To begin with, oregano is comprised of very healthy compounds.  Oregano oil will not only help to remedy your ear infection but will also, fight and protect you from many other health issues. Many today including me use oregano daily and right down to even my laundry. All because of its, far-reaching benefits.

From reading this post, you will understand more about ear infections. The possible causes so you can avoid having ear infections again. The signs and symptoms you might not know of. How you can use oregano oil to get quick relief from the infection.

A Better Understanding About Ear Infections

Today, many are very worried and cautious about ear infections due to the eventualities. Proper care and immediate treatment for ear infections are very necessary. If quick action is not taken, it can lead to fever further ear infections, and even loss of hearing.

An ear infection is scientifically known as acute otitis media (ACM). Ear infections are normally seen around the middle of the ear.  There also exist inner and outer ear infections. Ear infections are caused by bacteria. Be it an external or middle ear infection can largely be attributed to how you got the infection.

Inner ear infections

This can be an inflammation or a sign of more serious infection like meningitis.  It can either be a case of inflammation and not a typical infection. It comes with ear pain, nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.

Middle Ear Infection

Middle ear infections are normally seen around the middle area of the ear and around the eardrum which is between the Eustachian tube and the ear canal. A common cause is also experienced with respiratory problems.

The Swollenness of the Eustachian tubes due to an infection can cause a draining problem. When fluids in the Eustachian can’t drain properly, it falls back to the eardrum and causes an increase in pressure which is not good for the eardrum and can lead to an ear infection. Since our Eustachian tubes are linked together, the infection can move from one ear to another.

Outer Ear Infection

It is also called otitis externa or swimmers ear. This infection is normally noticed between the outer eardrums to the outside ear. It starts as a painful and itchy rash. It can later be swollen and reddish.

The outer ear infection is normally due to the leftover water in your ears, especially after bathing or swimming. The water remains to act as a breeding ground for bacterias and any irritation or scratch at the outer ear leads to an infection.

Ear infections with children

Ear Infections are highly common with children and this is just because of their ear canal. The Eustachian tube which is another name for the ear canal is horizontal. But, with adults, our ear canals are slant which makes it easier to drain. With the straight ear canal with children, and for the fact that it makes it difficult to drain out liquid can cause ear infections.

The straight nature of the canal prevents the liquid from draining through the throat down to the body. Now, the problem is, in this situation the liquid builds up and causing congestion which makes it uneasy to flush down into the body. This leaves the liquid no choice than to go back to the ear canal causing pressure at the back of the eardrum and can cause an ear infection.

Also, swelling which can be caused by undiagnosed food sensitivities or misalignment in the head, neck area can cause water to back up and prevent the natural drain into the body. Again, fluids will build up which can cause infections.

Some Practices That Can Cause Ear Infections

  • Failing to take action witnessing a red and somewhat bulging tympanic membrane indicates your Eustachian tubes are not draining properly and still not yet infected. This is seen as a driver of an infection. At this stage, you need to take proper action.
  • Misdiagnosis if you are misdiagnosed for an ear infection and a prescription antibiotic is given, you are likely exposed to more ear infections.
  • Taking Tylenol or Pain Killers Medications that are known to create harm to the kidneys or toxic to the kidneys are known to be toxic to the ears (ototoxic). As you may know regular intake of aspirin increase the risk of hearing loss.
  • Smoking and second-hand smoking Smoke is known to irritate the Eustachian tube which can cause swelling. This can be an issue as it prevents or obstructs the draining of fluid which can build up to an infection. Exposure to second-hand smoke increases the risk of a low-frequency sensorineural hearing loss passively. Leaving you not fully aware of the situation.
  • Failing to dry off your ears after shower or swimming.
  • Other risk factors This can be a case with small Eustachian tubes or horizontal developed tubes, then you are a likely candidate for ear infections. Dealing with a cold or upper respiratory infection can increase the likelihood of ear infections. Lastly, seasonal or frequent allergies can increase the chances for an ear infection outbreak.

Signs and Symptoms of ear infections include:

  • Dizziness
  • Spinning sensation
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Problems with balance or walking
  • Hearing loss
  • Earache or ear pain
  • Ringing in the ear (tinnitus) (1)

Are natural treatments for ear infections necessary?

Antibiotics are widely used for ear infections because people trust prescriptions from medical doctors than they can trust natural remedies. I can say this is just because many are still not aware of the health benefits of some natural treatments.

Recently, there have been a lot of reconsiderations on pharmaceutical prescription drugs. This has been for the fact of misdiagnosis. Majority of the time, right from our homes and even with professional doctors.

A research published in the wall street journal explains how antibiotics have been falsely prescribed most of the time.  The American Academy of Pediatrics even revised their treatment procedures and diagnosis of AOM (acute otitis media).

These were done to prevent false prescriptions and antibiotics overuse. It was discovered over 30% of prescribed anti-biotic in America was not necessary and 50% from just respiratory infections

At no point in time will I be presented with a natural treatment and a pharmaceutical drug with the same outcome and I reach out for the prescription drug.  Oregano for many instances has been referred to as “natures Antibiotic”. Bear with me, I am not just trying to throw antibiotics under the bus. There are certain conditions that antibiotics are more suited for. It is also a fact natural treatments can do much better than pharmaceutical drugs.

Ear infections can be treated from the comfort of your home naturally and it is always a simple process. However, if your instincts are pushing for you to see a doctor, follow your instincts’. But what I can say is, try to also give proven and recognized natural treatments a try before going for pharmaceutical drugs.
